There are lots of fun activities to get invovled with in Jan/Feb and one of the most popular is taking a ski trip! Before you go skiing, make sure to work on stabilizing the knee and ankle to prevent injury. Below are a few exercises you can start doing now.
Stretching and Balance exercises:
1) Single leg stand – stand on 1 leg barefoot or on folded towel with eyes closed for 1 minute (repeat 2 times each leg)
2) Side lunges – Step sideways, then step back to standing. Repeat using other leg. (1 set of 10 reps, once a day)
3) Quad stretches – Lie face down, reach back and grasp ankle. Relax leg and gently pull ankle towards buttocks and hold for 10 seconds. (1 set of 3 reps, once a day)
4) Hamstring stretch – Lie on back holding a towel looped under foot with knee straight. Gently pull leg up and hold for 10 seconds, repeat with opposite leg. (1 set of 3 reps, once a day)

Wellness Program at Rehab Dynamics helps patients stay on track
Raymond Lincks, of Abita Springs, began his physical therapy with Rehab Dynamics in July 2010 after back surgery.
“I was having trouble walking before surgery and therapy,” said Lincks. Now he feels great, thanks to his maintenance program or wellness visits at RD. Up to three times a week he comes in to do a personalized exercise program prescribed by his therapist, Susan Blanchard, PT.
Lincks said, “Sometimes I don’t feel like coming in to do my exercises but once I’m here I feel so much better!”
He and his wife, Madeline, love to travel to various festivals and are planning a cruise together for the summer. During his free time he loves to ride bikes, work in the yard and walk.
He is true evidence that discipline and persistence pay off! We are thrilled he is part of our family at Rehab Dynamics!

This week Susan hosted a BBQ for the Rehab Dynamics staff. We held the celebration in honor of Chani Knobe, PTA, who is leaving Louisiana with her sights on Dallas. Chani and husband, Joe, are excited about the move but sad to leave Louisiana. We wish her the best of luck!
